We really want to post another good and probably positive forecast in ATP Bastad in Sweden. We were wrong when we predicted the Spaniard Rocket David Ferrer to be looser against Federico Delbonis.
After the disappointing game in Wimbledon against Tomas Berdych. David Ferrer is all ready to win this title. Also, the Spaniard Rocket has wondrous performance on a clay court. According to the bookmakers, the favourite in this competition to lift the trophy is David Ferrer and this time we agree with them as they gave for him great value around 5.00 odds in Bwin. Yesterday, he did another good game against Dustin Brown as he beat him in straight sets 2:0 (6:2, 6:3).
There is nothing much what we can say about David Ferrer. Ferrer is definitely having a big potential and quality to be a top 20 players, he just needs to be more serious when he is playing. His service is maybe his best weapon. If he is playing like the last couple of days, we will surely see him at least to the final.
It is going to be a very interesting the tournament in Sofia. So far some of the big names here were eliminated and the biggest surprise is the elimination of Dominic Thiem, who lost his second round game from Nikoloz Basilashvili - a player with great stamina and who is very strong physically, dominating in most of the points.
Actually, we admire a lot the Georgian player because he is having hard and very heavy ground strokes but he is not that mentally stable and if he does not believe in the win he simply cannot make something significant. Our prediction for a final result winner of this tournament in Sofia will be Roberto Bautista-Agut as for us, he is one amazing athlete and a great player and he will totally deserve to take the title here. He already took one title this year and this was in Chennai, India where on the final he beat in two sets Daniil Medvedev from Russia.
In the beginning before the elimination of Thiem and some other strong players, Roberto Bautista-Agut was staked at around 8.00 odds but now they are a little bit lower - around 6.00 - 6.50. We still think that these odds are more than good for us and we will strongly go for it as in our opinion the Spaniard and the Defending Champion is in one amazing shape and he will not allow easily to be defeated.
Just before US Open there is one very good tournament on American soil and this is the small ATP 250 tournament in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. There are some great names who are playing on this tournament but unfortunately some of them have been already eliminated like Gilles Simon. But there are also other names which can potentially triumph with the title. Such players are Richard Gasquet, Roberto Bautista-Agut, Sam Querrey and Fernando Verdasco. But there is also one player, who is very underestimated by the bookmakers and this is Steve Johnson.
Actually, Steve Johnson has won already his first ATP title this season in Nottingham, United Kingdom on grass. He defeated then Pablo Cuevas. We can say that this American is playing his best season and he is now ranked at his best - 21st place in the world of ATP. With one eventual good performance here on the ATP in Winston-Salem he will definitely boost his ranking more and he will have all the arguments to attack top 10 if he makes a good performance in the upcoming US Open, where he can perform pretty well and eventually reach 3rd round or maybe 4th, which will guarantee him lots of points (he is seeded and he will definitely miss some of the big names of the tennis, at least in the first 2-3 rounds).
There is nothing much what we can say about Steve Johnson. He is an American and he is 26 years old. The future is in front of him, but he needs to be more constant on his appearances on the court. Johnson is definitely having a big potential and quality to be a top 10 players, he just needs to be more serious when he is playing. His service is maybe his best weapon. He is serving with 200+ km/h and this is the thing which makes lots of troubles to his opponents. To be honest, here on this tournament, there is no player, who can stop services like 220-230 km/h, perfectly places on the corners. If he is playing like last couple of weeks, we will sure see him at least to the final, where his eventual opponent can be the seeded number one - Richard Gasquet but the French is not in his best shape right now and Steve Johnson is having all the chances to win one eventual final.
We were about to post this pick much earlier but we wanted to see how this tournament is going to be played. Dominic Thiem was our favourite from the beginning it and he is showing not that bad tennis recently, actually he is playing very good and he deserves to win it.Dominic Thiem has 2 titles this year as all the titles came in a period of 1 month. We can say that he is going to be the future world number one. We just hope that this is not going to be too heavy for him. He is quite experienced now and we hardly believe that there is anyone on this tournament who can win against him. Well of course, there are players like Juan Martin Del Potro but he is not in the best shape. There are David Goffin, Alexander Zverev and Philipp Kohlschreiber. All good players who can beat Thiem. After all we believe that the half in which is Dominic Thiem he will avoid most of the uncomfortable players. In one eventual David Goffin on the semi-finals and then on the finals we believe that he is going to play against Philipp Kohlschreiber. He is capable of beating all the players which we mentioned so on odds like 3.50 this is very valuable bet.
We were about to post that pick at the beginning of the week but we were not quite sure whether Angelique Kerber shape is that good that she can win this tournament. Well, we must say that he is in a great shape and it seems that she is going to win the tournament for sure. She eliminated Anja Beck and Carla Suarez Navarro in the second and third round, respectively. Now she is heading to play against Petra Kvitova, who is a very tough player. In one potential final she is going to face maybe Agnieska Radwanska but it is not quite sure because Laura Siegemund is quite good player and she did great results here, starting from the qualifications and reaching the semi - finals. At the beginning of the week Kerber was pointed as a favourite according to the bookmakers with odds of 4.50 to win the trophy here. At this point we though that this is not that value because she was in the worse stream and she had to face a very tough opponents, but now after the amazing 2 sets win against Carla Suarez Navarro, we are more than sure that Angelique Kerber has everything to win the trophy. After she won the Australian Open everyone has such a huge expectations of her. Actually, this is not so bad, because at least these high expectations motivate her to make win after win and take title after title.
After Roger Federer injured his knee he is back on the court and he did even his first win after the injury. He did a two sets win against one very strong opponent in the face of Guillermo Garcia-Lopez. Before the tournament no one counted Federer as one of the favourites for winning the title here but after his first game, we believe that he is more than prepared to take his first major trophy for the season.
Even after the sensational win with 6-3, 6-4 against the Spaniard, Roger Federer is still staked at 11.00 to win the tournament. This is more than perfect and it is one of the most valuable bets this month. Novak Djokovic is in the half of Roger Federer and this is the only reason why the odds are so big, but the Joker is not the best players on clay, so we are giving great chances Roger Federer to win against him in one potential semi-final between both players and lately triumph with the title.
