We continue to give you our exclusive previews on a high-level tournament.Yesterday, we were right about our decision to think that ATP Munich, Germany clay court tournament between Yannick Hanfmann and Marcos Baghdatis.
We expect Yannick Hanfmann to win here. On a clay, Marco Baghdatis was never his best surface, his best results came on a hard court. Hanfmann is playing in front of his home crowd and this should boost his belief. He has a massive serve and is good from the baseline but he often struggles with focus and loses a lot of matches because of that. We think Baghdatis can win a set.
Currently, Yannick Hanfmann stays in the 118th position, while the Cyprus Ace, Marco Baghdatis is on the 80th position so far in ATP World ranking. Moreover, the younger talent of Germany (Yannick Hanfmann) showed much more impressive performance on a clay court than his rival of Cyprus. Hanfmann has much better achievements than his rival in this tournament. That’s we are backing to the home win for the German talent.
At the beginning of this week, we choose an event from ATP, Dubai, 1st Round. Marcos Baghdatis faces off against Viktor Troicki. The game will be held in Center Court, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. We expect to see an exciting and spectacular game between them.
According to the bookmakers, the favourite in this amazing contest is Marcos Baghdatis, who is from Cyprus. We don’t agree with them. Against each other, both players have played 8 competitive games as the Cypriot Ace won 5 of all those encounters. In the previous two meetings we can see that, Viktor Troicki beat his rival of Cyprus since 29th September 2016 ( Chengdu, China ) as the game finished 2:1 to Troicki in three sets (6:3, 2:6, 6:4), moreover, they are met in ATP, Istanbul, Turkey the last year. The Serbian rocket has had won in two sets (5:7, 4:6).
Currently, the Cypriot rocket is on the 112th position in ATP World ranking, while Troicki stays in the 66th position. The Cypriot is favourite here but we doubt that he will take this game. Bookies must be very wrong to give such odds for Marcos who is n a t better player than Troicki. In the previous five games in this tournament, Viktor Troicki showed a disappointing performance and may be this is the main reason to be an underdog today.
A little bit late about this pick but we had a strong researches and thoughts about what pick to post next. The last game for today’s amazing Australian Open looks the best and it is between Marcos Baghdatis and Rafael Nadal.
We think that Marcos Baghdatis on Australian Open should not be underestimated. He is among the best and more dangerous players as he got lots of support from the crowd. Moreover, he is in one incredible shape right now. Our pick here will be Baghdatis not to lose this game with more than 8 games difference. Actually, he is playing good tennis right now, while Rafa Nadal is again struggling a lot.
We all know that Baghdatis will not have powers to make something on this tournament, moreover, he had to cope with an injury just before his Australian journey but still he is not for underestimating. We think that he can make something here and eventually even take a set.
Just like we did in the past few days, we are going to post the tennis game from the day before because they are starting early in the morning and we will have no time to post them or for you to follow them. The game which we liked for tomorrow morning is from the very good and prestigious tour of Sydney - ATP.
The game is between two players who surprised everyone as they reached this stage of the tour and these are the players - Marcos Baghdatis and Joao Sousa. Actually, we can say that for Baghdatis it was not a surprise as he was seeded here under number 8 but he got an injury in his last game in Doha last week and we had not thought that he will make it on this tournament. But actually, he was playing pretty well and he totally deserved to play on the semi-finals. The same qualifies for Joao Sousa for who this is his first tournament for the year and he already beat quality opponents like Albert Ramos and Robin Haase.
We believe that after the last night’s game, where Baghdatis did 12 aces, he will not achieve something like this tomorrow morning. Moreover, Sousa is definitely a tougher opponent than Vesely. If Sousa is playing like he did it in the past few rounds he will leave no chances to the Cyprus player. Furthermore, Baghdatis is already 30+ years old and he will simply have no powers to play in this semi-finals, as even Australian Open is knocking on the door and he will want to rest a bit before it.
We have saw so many surprises in the US Open so far that we are in a shock of the happening. Today we are going to try to catch another surprise, if we can mark this game as a surprise. The match will be between the French Benoit Paire and Marcos Baghdatis.
Benoit Paire is a very good player, he is definitely not a worse player than Marcos Baghdatis with the difference that Marcos Baghdatis is much more consistent than the French. If Benoit Paire is playing on the same level all the time he will be around 20-30th in the world but he is not that stable. He is making one good tournament and then he is having 2-3 bad tournaments, where he cannot even pass round one. In this tournament he did the first step after he won against Dusan Lajovic from Serbia with 3-2 sets. It was a great battle and we are happy to see him winning because Lajovic in the second round would be pain for our eyes.
Baghdatis had no problems against Facundo Bagnis who retired. Benoit Paire did one game, we think now he will be motivated and passionate about his performance here and he will do the impossible to take the game. Moreover, in the past 2 head to head games he did wins against the Cyprus player and we think he can do it one more time.
The next tennis game we are going to predict today is between Brian Baker and Marcos Baghdatis. It is a game from the ATP Newport. Yesterday, we did a terrible mistake by choosing Ryan Harrison to win against Dancevic, but .. we did not believe that Harrison’s shape dropped so much.
Today, the game between Brian Baker and Marcos Baghdatis should be our best prediction. Brian Baker is making amazing tournament so far. He reached this stage after he came from qualifications. He did 3 wins in a row to make it to here, to play in the second round against Marcos Baghdatis. Baghdatis is one of the most dangerous players on grass so we should not underestimate him, but Baker is starting finding himself after the long injury so we will give him some credits.
Brian Baker to take a set is not that bad option at all. He showed a good tennis these days and he will definitely be supported by the crowd on the courts. Marcos Baghdatis is too good for him, but we believe that if Baker is playing like he did it in the last few games, he will definitely take at least one set.
The former finalist of the ATP in Nottingham Sam Querrey is going to play his second round game against Marcos Baghdatis. Both players had no problem in winning against their opponents in the first round of the tour.
Sam Querrey won against Ernesto Escobedo while Baghdatis won against the tough Russian Evgeny Donskoy. Now the odds for this game are almost matched. Baghdatis is a little bit more favourite according to the bookmakers but as we said Querrey played a final last year and we think that he is going to be really motivated to take the win. Moreover, he is serving hard and Baghdatis is facing problems against such players.
On head to head level Sam Querrey is overplaying Baghdatis. He has 3 wins against Baghdatis and just 1 loss. We think that despite that the game will be matched, but when the odds are so big for Querrey this forces us to bet against Baghdatis. We think that Querrey is the better and he will prove that on the court.
