We have saw so many surprises in the US Open so far that we are in a shock of the happening. Today we are going to try to catch another surprise, if we can mark this game as a surprise. The match will be between the French Benoit Paire and Marcos Baghdatis.
Benoit Paire is a very good player, he is definitely not a worse player than Marcos Baghdatis with the difference that Marcos Baghdatis is much more consistent than the French. If Benoit Paire is playing on the same level all the time he will be around 20-30th in the world but he is not that stable. He is making one good tournament and then he is having 2-3 bad tournaments, where he cannot even pass round one. In this tournament he did the first step after he won against Dusan Lajovic from Serbia with 3-2 sets. It was a great battle and we are happy to see him winning because Lajovic in the second round would be pain for our eyes.
Baghdatis had no problems against Facundo Bagnis who retired. Benoit Paire did one game, we think now he will be motivated and passionate about his performance here and he will do the impossible to take the game. Moreover, in the past 2 head to head games he did wins against the Cyprus player and we think he can do it one more time.
The US Open is fact and we have already did one prediction from it. Unfortunately it was wrong, because Gilles Muller decided not to be serious against Gael Monfils. The French did not do something significant in his game, but Muller was just too weak and not on place.
Today the next game which we are going to predict is between Daniel Evans and Rajeev Ram. There is no doubt that Daniel Evans is making his best tennis year this season. He progressed a lot in the past few months as he is now under 64th place. He won lots of Challengers and he competed in many ATP tours, something which he never did in his career so far. We can say that he is a serious player but in order to achieve something more he need to be more consistent. Rajeev Ram, we do not know what to write more about him, as we did lots of predictions for him.
Ram is not playing his best tennis right now, but he is still one very dangerous player, who can make lots of troubles to anyone. He is having a great service and we think that in this game we are going to see at least one tie-break, which will make the game with possibly lots of sets. The odds for over 38 games are good and we will go after them.
After a boring tennis week, we are coming back with an amazing tournament, which is the last tournament from the Grand Slams - US Open. The first game we are going to predict from here is the game between Gael Monfils and Gilles Muller.
There is no doubt that Gael Monfils is the better player but this is a very long format 3 out of 5 sets and we are not quite sure whether he will have the needed powers to compete on 100%. He is the better player but against him is one very good serving player like Gilles Muller. The Luxembourg player is incredible when he is serving and if he is concentrated on the court he will have no problems to put the game into some tie-breaks. Actually, the prediction about tie-breaks is pretty good though.
Anyway, we are going to attach ourselves to the games handicap. We think that Muller is capable of taking even a set here. Unfortunately the odds for Muller to take a set are around 1.57 which is too low for us. But the +4.5 Games AH market is very good and we will go for it.
Pablo Carreno-Busta is continuing with the great games from the beginning of the tournament in Winston-Salem. But tonight he is going to face one serious opponent who is not weaker than him - John Millman.
John Millman is doing great tournament too. He eliminated the highest seeded player in the scheme Richard Gasquet. Now we can say the favourite for winning the tournament is Roberto Bautista-Agut, who should not have any problems in winning it. But we believe that Pablo Carreno-Busta at the moment is one of the most dangerous players. We know that he is a clay court player and he is not feeling very comfortable on hard outdoor courts, but he is still having a great chances of winning this game. John Millman played lots of games recently and it is high time for him to feel the tiredness.
If Millman is playing like he did it against Gasquet he can win the tournament too. But we do not believe that he will have the powers to play one more game like that. Usually, after one good game, where you spent the whole fuel, the next game is a potential loss. In our opinion it will be like that and he will lose the game.
We had to write a prediction about Albert Montanes in the last round when he played against Benjamin Mitchell but we were afraid that Montanes might not be in an optimal shape. Well, he was in a great shape and he won with difference.
Today he is going to play his second round game from the qualifications against Alejandro Gonzalez who eliminated in the last round the Italian Luca Vanni. Bookmakers are again giving very big odds for Montanes. The Spaniard is one of the most dangerous players in the qualifications, because he is experienced and he is having amazing game from the base line. With the style he is playing, he is potentially a big trouble for all seeded players here.
Both players have one head to head game but it was from 4 years ago on clay in Rome. There, Montanes won with 2-0 sets, but this game is too far in the past so we cannot take it seriously. Anyway, Montanes is the better opponent and he should not have problems in beating Gonzalez.
The qualifications of US Open has begun and we have already see some of the games from the first round of them. We are not very keen in writing predictions for qualifications but this time we will make an exception and we will do it for the game between Marius Copil and Go Soeda.
Usually, both players are very similar like skills but the problem is that Go Soeda is playing mainly on Challengers and ITF tournaments, while Marius Copil is playing on big ATP tournaments as well. Go Soeda is a good player, he is born in Japan and he is mostly playing in the low Challengers in Asia. He is very experienced as he is 31 years old. His opponent Marius Copil is from Romania and he is 25 years old and he is one of the best players who are serving with over 200 km/h. Soeda will be damaged badly by his services but this will not be the thing which will force Soeda to lose the game.
The fact is that Marius Copil have not play a single professional game since the Davis Cup, when he played against Feliciano Lopez. He decided to rest in that 3-4 weeks so he can be fully prepared for the US Open. He did not play a single game in a month so he will be thirsty for wins. This his desire of play will bring him the win here.
Just before US Open there is one very good tournament on American soil and this is the small ATP 250 tournament in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. There are some great names who are playing on this tournament but unfortunately some of them have been already eliminated like Gilles Simon. But there are also other names which can potentially triumph with the title. Such players are Richard Gasquet, Roberto Bautista-Agut, Sam Querrey and Fernando Verdasco. But there is also one player, who is very underestimated by the bookmakers and this is Steve Johnson.
Actually, Steve Johnson has won already his first ATP title this season in Nottingham, United Kingdom on grass. He defeated then Pablo Cuevas. We can say that this American is playing his best season and he is now ranked at his best - 21st place in the world of ATP. With one eventual good performance here on the ATP in Winston-Salem he will definitely boost his ranking more and he will have all the arguments to attack top 10 if he makes a good performance in the upcoming US Open, where he can perform pretty well and eventually reach 3rd round or maybe 4th, which will guarantee him lots of points (he is seeded and he will definitely miss some of the big names of the tennis, at least in the first 2-3 rounds).
There is nothing much what we can say about Steve Johnson. He is an American and he is 26 years old. The future is in front of him, but he needs to be more constant on his appearances on the court. Johnson is definitely having a big potential and quality to be a top 10 players, he just needs to be more serious when he is playing. His service is maybe his best weapon. He is serving with 200+ km/h and this is the thing which makes lots of troubles to his opponents. To be honest, here on this tournament, there is no player, who can stop services like 220-230 km/h, perfectly places on the corners. If he is playing like last couple of weeks, we will sure see him at least to the final, where his eventual opponent can be the seeded number one - Richard Gasquet but the French is not in his best shape right now and Steve Johnson is having all the chances to win one eventual final.
Bjorn Fratangelo surprised once more anyone in Winston-Salem with his amazing play against Evgeny Donskoy and he managed to win with 2-1 sets. In his next challenge he need to face the clay specialist - Paolo Lorenzi.
But there is one problem for Lorenzi and this is that this ATP tournament is not going to be played on clay, it is hard outdoor and the chances of Lorenzi are not very good here. Bjorn Fratangelo is not that good player, maybe he is weaker than Lorenzi but on this surface the chances are definitely in favour of Fratangelo. Moreover, he is possessing a great service and if he is using it, he should not have any problems in winning this game even in straight sets. Lorenzi had a long tournament in Italy and he had for less than 2-3 days to fly from Italy to USA, rest and prepare for this game. The chances are strongly on the side of Fratangelo.
There are two head to head games and they have 1 win each of the players. Interesting fact is that Lorenzi is the better player on clay but he lost exactly on clay. So we think that on hard courts, Fratangelo should not have any problems in winning against him. Moreover, after we all know what are the current skills of Lorenzi.
We have already did a great prediction of Malek Jaziri last week on the tournament in Cincinnati and now we are going to try and strike him again, this time against the Moldovian Radu Albot.
Malek Jaziri is a player who we dislike. He is not that serious when he is on court but the good news is that, he is now playing with a player which is just like him. In this game, he might have a huge chances to take the win. The odds are almost matched which is definitely good for us. Radu Albot is not that serious player, usually, Malek Jaziri is having bigger potential. They are both from many years on the tour and we can say that they are one of the experienced players here.
From head to head games, we can see that both players played 3 times as Radu Albot is having 2 wins. But the games were on low ranking Challengers and they were 3-4 years ago. Now it is completely different as, Malek Jaziri improved his level a lot. We are just hoping, he play on maximum concentration.
