We were about to post this pick much earlier but we wanted to see how this tournament is going to be played. Dominic Thiem was our favourite from the beginning it and he is showing not that bad tennis recently, actually he is playing very good and he deserves to win it.Dominic Thiem has 2 titles this year as all the titles came in a period of 1 month. We can say that he is going to be the future world number one. We just hope that this is not going to be too heavy for him. He is quite experienced now and we hardly believe that there is anyone on this tournament who can win against him. Well of course, there are players like Juan Martin Del Potro but he is not in the best shape. There are David Goffin, Alexander Zverev and Philipp Kohlschreiber. All good players who can beat Thiem. After all we believe that the half in which is Dominic Thiem he will avoid most of the uncomfortable players. In one eventual David Goffin on the semi-finals and then on the finals we believe that he is going to play against Philipp Kohlschreiber. He is capable of beating all the players which we mentioned so on odds like 3.50 this is very valuable bet.
Yesterday, Juan Martin Del Potro did a great return on clay courts. He beat very difficulty Dustin Brown from Germany in the ATP Munich. It was a great game with very interesting points and rallies. Of course, the Argentinian showed a huge class and he gave no chances to his opponent.
Now his next opponent is another German in the face of Jan-Lennard Struff. This game will be very very interesting, as Juan Martin Del Potro is pointed as a clear favourite according to the bookmakers. But believe us it will be really hard for him to resist the strong German. Yesterday, Jan-Lennard Struff had a tough game against the Canadian Vasek Pospisil but he managed to win with a class after he was losing with 1-0 in the sets. He showed a great consistency and he was much more reliable in the important points of the games.
From this game, we cannot risk to bet for Juan Martin Del Potro, if the odds were higher, yes why not, but on odds around 1.30 it is just useless. We pointed out that the odds for over 21.5 games are very good. Yesterday both players did over 21 games in their games and we believe that there is a huge possibility to see one more over here. Actually the game can finish in two sets but with a possible tie-break it can happen easily.
Fernando Verdasco had a very easy tournament last week in Bucharest. He won the title there after he beat on the finals Lucas Pouille. Unfortunately for him the final was rescheduled for Monday. He took it easily, but this is still something uncomfortable for him.
Now his next big challenge is in the ATP Estoril, Portugal. This seems to be a very good tournament with really nice players. Yesterday we watched the game between Gastao Elias and Paul-Henri Mathieu, which we predicted. It looks like that the conditions are great for quality tennis. Today, Verdasco is going to play against Pablo Carreno-Busta. It will be a good battle between two Spanish players. There is no need to say that they are both amazing players on clay and they have a huge chances to reach at least one semi-final on this tournament.
Usually, Fernando Verdasco is little bit better than Pablo Carreno-Busta, but here everything is different. Verdasco is going to be tired, because he had less than 2 days to rest. Also in the past few months Carreno-Busta is showing great potential and we believe that he can definitely surprise Verdasco today.
The tennis pick we are going to give you for today is from the ATP tournament in Estoril, Portugal. In the past 2 days, we were not that successful but now we are confident that we will find the right path to the wins.
The game we are going to give you is between the players Gastao Elias and Paul-Henri Mathieu. According to the bookmakers there is not a clear favourite here. When the markets opened they were staked at completely the same odds. But then the odds started to drop a lot for the French player. We did a small research and we find out that Gastao Elias did a long tournament last week in Torino - Challenger. He reached the final and won it and this happened just 2 days ago.
Now for these two days he must recover completely, rest and travel to Portugal, in order to play in this tournament. Actually we do not believe that this is possible, moreover, he is not that good player and we doubt that he can manage to win another game, moreover against so tough player like Paul-Henri Mathieu. Also there are 3 head to head games as all of them were played on clay and all had finished with wins for Mathieu. Our prediction here categorically goes for Paul-Henri Mathieu.
It is the first round of the ATP Munich. The game we are going to predict is between Ivan Dodig and Ernest Gulbis. We can say that Gulbis must finally come with the win because he is in a serie of 4 losses in a row.
He is a great talent and we really do not know why he is behaving like that. He is losing by anyone, even from the players who are not from his class. We also can say truly that Gulbis has a huge potential to be a top player if he wants to. 2-3 years ago he was completely outclassing each player, he was one of the most uncomfortable players for the big 10. Now he can win against anyone and he can lose by anyone. But each time we see him on odds like 2.00 or more it is a value bet to go and search him to win the game.
Now against Ivan Dodig it will be a real battle. We really like Ivan Dodig, who is one of the best Croatian players right now, but he is old enough. He is not capable of playing on a high level for the whole game, moreover if the game continues in three sets. On clay, Dodig is very good player, definitely better than the other courts styles but it will be really hard against Gulbis, who is thirsty for wins.
We were about to post that pick at the beginning of the week but we were not quite sure whether Angelique Kerber shape is that good that she can win this tournament. Well, we must say that he is in a great shape and it seems that she is going to win the tournament for sure. She eliminated Anja Beck and Carla Suarez Navarro in the second and third round, respectively. Now she is heading to play against Petra Kvitova, who is a very tough player. In one potential final she is going to face maybe Agnieska Radwanska but it is not quite sure because Laura Siegemund is quite good player and she did great results here, starting from the qualifications and reaching the semi - finals. At the beginning of the week Kerber was pointed as a favourite according to the bookmakers with odds of 4.50 to win the trophy here. At this point we though that this is not that value because she was in the worse stream and she had to face a very tough opponents, but now after the amazing 2 sets win against Carla Suarez Navarro, we are more than sure that Angelique Kerber has everything to win the trophy. After she won the Australian Open everyone has such a huge expectations of her. Actually, this is not so bad, because at least these high expectations motivate her to make win after win and take title after title.
We are very surprised by the way Guillermo Garcia-Lopez won his game against Kyle Edmund. We thought that Kyle Edmund can go far far in this tournament but Garcia-Lopez was maybe too good for him.
Now Garcia-Lopez who is actually the defending champion from the last year is going to play against the very strong Argentinian player on clay Guido Pella. Guido Pella had a tough game against Gimeno-Traver and won it with 2-1 sets. If we must be more accurate Guido Pella is the better player on clay, but Garcia-Lopez is not so far from him right now. Guido Pella lost his shape in the past weeks and now he is very liable to achieve losses from anyone. Furthermore Garcia-Lopez is not that bad player at all.
The ATP tour in Bucharest is from the category ATP 250 but it looks like it is not that good. At least the organization is okay. Two days ago there was weather problems but for now everything seems okay. Already the first two seeded players Karlovic and Tomic were eliminated. We think that the scheme is cleared in front of Garcia-Lopez and if he won against Guido Pella, we do not believe there is going to be anyone who can stop him from defending the title.
This game is scheduled for today but it is not sure when it is going to be played due to a bad weather in Bucharest, Romania. So far the weather was amazing but in the past 2 days it seems that it is very stormy on the Balkans and especially in Romania.
The game is between the seeded number one here Bernard Tomic and the best Dutch player Robin Haase. Tomic is not the best clay player but we still believe that he is 2-3 classes above his opponent today. Tomic needs a good preparation for the upcoming Masters and Roland Garros Grand Slam. He missed the Masters in Monte Carlo last week but now he is going to play two low ranking tournaments in a row, in Bucharest, Romania and Istanbul, Turkey.
This is not so bad decision, because as we mentioned above, he is not the best clay player and his chances on the lower ranking tournaments are much higher to make something rather than to be eliminated in the first round yet. The bookmakers are underestimating him a lot and he is staked at around 1.70 even more. This makes us believe that it is just too good to be missed.
