The number 33 in the world Fernando Verdasco faces Grigor Dimitrov in the first round of the ATP Beijing. The Bulgarian number 1 has been slightly underachieving recently and it seems he is thinking more about the upcoming Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London. Verdasco is not doing too well in 2014, either, but he plays with no pressure and tries to get the maximum out of each game. This will be only the 2nd time these two players meet, with the Spaniard leading the series 1-0. Today we expect to see a tough game and even though Dimitrov might prevail, we believe Verdasco could get a set.
The first round of the Beijing Open offers us an interesting game between Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova and Slovakian Daniela Hantuchová. These two are no strangers to each other, having met 12 times in total, with Kuznetsova leading the series 8-4. It must be added though, that the last time they met was back in 2011.
Svetlana seems to be in a slightly better form than her opponent and we expect her to win in straight sets.
It is true that Juan Monaco is not in his best form recently, but against his fellow Argentinian Federico Delbonis we should see a slightly better performance. The main reason is that Delbonis is not such a great player on hard court. Sure, he has the potential to become very good, but we expect him to struggle against the much more experienced Monaco.
These two players met once in 2014 with Federico winning, so today might be a good opportunity for Juan Monaco to get his revenge. We would go for Monaco’s victory.
